Although I understand the utility of AI. As an educator, and someone who’s being told to use it constantly, I don’t think that lack of writer’s voice is a good reason to be using something that is so horribly negatively impactful in the environment. Regardless of how judicious anyone’s use is. But that’s just my two cents
That is an unfortunate consequence that is under-reported and regularly ignored. Thank you for the reminder of the reality. Hopefully we'll find a more sustainable way in the future, and quickly.
I would add that, as a heavy GenAI user, my brainstorming sessions really benefit from AI suggestions. You shouldn't just go with whatever the AI suggests though, as that would lead to the same type of content every time.
I use ChatGPT every day. And almost exactly as you've described it. Since I write like I talk (kind of rambling), it definitely helps me organize all of that into more cohesive and structured content. And then I start the conversation back and forth to refine it. And I absolutely give it feedback on voice, words or phrases I didn't like and would never use, tone, etc.
I’ve had professional editors make suggestions on my work and they always, always enhance it. They offer about a 10% influence. So you can always ask Chat GPT to “act as my professional editor without influencing my work more than 10%, improve this line” etc.

Absolutely! I think the number one rule of using GenAI is "don't just go with whatever AI suggests."
Thanks for the comment.
Now that you mention it: yes, that's the important bit. Something they should probably teach in schools. 😄
